After the public appeal of Yazidi survivor Fareeda Khalaf, during the last edition of the Estoril Conferences, we reached out to Yazda – a global organisation established in 2014 that deals with the needs of the displaced and traumatized Yazidi. Portugal is one of the few countries that has welcomed members of the Yazidi community. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between these two organisations and the Estoril Conferences are now the sole representatives of Yazda in Portugal.
Its main purpose is the recognition of the Yazidi genocide both by the Portuguese political institutions and at the international level, including the process of holding ISIS accountable in the International Criminal Court.
The article to be published in our forthcoming edition of Global Review will be the first of many activities we will be developing in order to spread the word on the Yazidi community and their endeavours.
